Round 3 sees the ATC debut on the brand new Indonesian venue
The Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup is back! For the final two rounds of 2021 the ATC takes on the all-new Mandalika International Street Circuit in Indonesia, with four races remaining to decide the 2021 Champion. Who masters the brand new track first may decide the crown, and the first clue comes in Round 3 this weekend.
Taiyo Furusato was the undisputed king of Qatar as the Japanese rider won an incredible four races in a row, so he’ll be in the spotlight this weekend as he aims to keep that roll going. Danial Sharil, back from injury and back in the fight at the front, came closest to stopping Furusato in Round 2 and he’ll be one to watch again.
Also arriving from some impressive podiums in Qatar are Gun Mie, Hakim Danish and Kanta Hamada, and all will be looking to battle for the rostrum once more. Will their speed translate from Losail to Mandalika? Or could they even come out swinging as the pacesetters?
Australian Carter Thompson had a solid opener with some good top fives too, and Rei Wakamatsu took two fourth places but finds his place in the standings taking a dent from DNFs.
For the Indonesian riders on the grid, however, it may be an even bigger weekend than for anyone. Taking part in the first international races at the country’s flagship venue is something special, and the likes of Herlian Dandi, Herjun Firdaus, who’s back in the mix, and Fadillah Aditama - the latter of whom struggled with some bad luck in Qatar - will be looking to represent on home turf.
Two races, one brand new track and another 50 points up for grabs… tune in at 12:00 local time for Race 1 and 16:00 local time for Race 2 as the ATC takes on the Mandalika International Street Circuit and makes a little history in the process!
